MARCH 20, 1925 – RECORD-BREAKING SEASON

Failure to properly press agent itself has kept the Athenian A. A. from letting the public know, just how good Its basketball team is and thereby keeping Baltimore from realizing, just how proud it should be of its able representative in the basketball world.
The Athenians have already played, and when the season concludes, will have played probably the hardest basketball schedule of any colored amateur team in the country and have been successful in a great majority of its contests. When it is considered that two-thirds of the schedule consists of road games, such a record is to be marveled at.
To date only one game has been lost at home and that to the State champion 104th Medical Regiment team by one point in an extra period game.
Seven teams, namely and in order, Philadelphia Panthers, Steelton Elks, Alpha Lightning Five, New York American Legion, Plainfield Athenians, Chicago Dribblers and Morgan College have bowed to the skill of the local dribblers.
A home record of seven wins in eight starts. Now as to the road record, few are more impressive. The season started with a victory over the Vandals at Atlantic City.
Just before starting on their annual western trip, the Athenians inaugurated Sunday basketball in Washington by losing to the Alcoes.
The Greeks then started west in true Alexandrian style, for more worlds to conquer and succeeded in winning 7 out of 10 games.
Returning home, a short trip took them to Atlantic. City and Philadelphia. In Atlantic City the “Y” Big Five, there, was defeated for the first time during the season and up to present writing, the only time this season.
The next night the Panthers won in Philadelphia. The road record stands 9 won and 5 lost. The complete record for the season stands 16 won and 6 lost.
Ten more games remain to be played, six out of town and four at home. This will give us a total 32 games for the season, covering territory halfway across country and embracing the entire Middle Atlantic States.
On Thursday of this week the Greeks will leave for Wissahickon, where they will meet the Speed Marvels, recent conquerors of the LoendI, at Germantown, Pa.
Friday, March 20, the local team will meet the Atlantic City “Y’ in the second game of the three-game series. The third game will be played in Baltimore at the New Albert on March 27.
